Spiritual Formation
Growing in our love for God and others is at the heart of our life as followers of Jesus. When asked of the most important of all the commandments, Jesus responded,
The most important one is this: Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:28-34)
So how do we grow in our love for God and others? The Spirit guides us in ordering and opening our lives to God through practices and rhythms demonstrated by Jesus.
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)
